SISCODE is a EU funded projected aimed at stimulating the use of co-creation methodologies in policy design and use bottom-up design driven methodologies to pollinate Responsible Research and Innovation and Science Technology and Innovation policies.
In order to achieve this goal the project consortium is runs a European wide research to understand the dynamics within these co-creation environments as well as the outcomes we can obtain from such approaches. These results will then be compared to devise a set of co-creation methodologies suited for scalability and replication. 10 co-creation labs spread around Europe will work with design driven approaches to co-creation to generate real life knowledge. This will give policy makers the opportunity to test new and more open ways of conceiving policies to reconnect policy design with grassroots initiatives and citizens. Having access to co-creation in real life contexts will ease their way to transform the way policies are conceived and to close the divide between citizens and policy making.
SISCODE is set in motion by a desk research that informs the overall conceptual, theoretical, scientific and methodological coherence of the project. The project will then gather and document 100 co-creation initiatives from Europe. 40 of these co-creation cases will be analysed to understand their dynamics and the level of integration of society. Finally, 15 of them will undergo an in-depth study to detect the barriers that lie in diverse cultural, societal and regulatory contexts.
SISCODE will build a network of 10 co-creation laboratories throughout Europe to experiment with design-driven approaches to co-creation and draw knowledge from the interaction with real life experimentation. They will work on the basis of the iterative design cycle of “understanding-ideating-prototyping-verifying”. Policy-makers will be invited to participate in an intermediate playground to reconnect grassroots initiatives to policy. The final result of these activities will be the co-production of situated models of co-creation ecosystems that will work as guides for the replicability and scalability of co-creation under different cultural, institutional and regulatory contexts.
Led by the Politecnico di Milano, SISCODE is governed by a multidisciplinary consortium of institutions. The partners are based in 13 European countries and includes 3 networks, world class research institutions specialised in applied research and with strong policy connections and institutions that combine research and a practitioner focus having a long experience in supporting and conducting co-creation processes.
The expertise of the consortium will be backed by a scientific committee to ensure the achievement of high level scientific results and impact. Members appointed are representative from the fields of policy, science, innovation, design and science communication.
